OwlView 1.1 Update Provides Direct Access to Excel and FileMaker Pro Data

Brookline, MA - November 26, 2003. CompassOwl today updated OwlView, its simple inexpensive thematic mapping application for Macintosh, to version 1.1. New features include the ability to create a map directly from an open Excel or FileMaker Pro window and the option to count, sum or average items in an address list or other list.

Product Background

OwlView allows a user to combine data from a spreadsheet, database or text file with geographic boundaries to produce maps which visually display patterns of spatial distribution within the data.

Features include: three classification methods (Equal Counts, Equal Ranges and Natural Breaks), specifiable category count, six color schemes and modifiable legend. Maps can be printed or exported as PICT files containing vector polygon objects. Mac OS X is recommended although OwlView will run with Mac OS 8.6 or higher.

The boundaries used by OwlView were produced by the US Census Bureau for Census 2000. The boundaries available are: 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA), 3-digit ZCTA, County, County Subdivision, Place, Census Tract, Census Block Group, 107th Congressional District (before redistricting), 108th Congressional District (current districts) and Voting District (1999).
