Brookline, MA - September 30, 2003. CompassOwl today released OwlView 1.0, a simple inexpensive thematic mapping application for Macintosh. OwlView allows a user to combine data exported from a spreadsheet or database with geographic boundaries to produce maps which visually display patterns of spatial distribution within the data.
Features include: three classification methods (Equal Counts, Equal Ranges and Natural Breaks), specifiable category count, six color schemes and modifiable legend. Maps can be printed or exported as PICT files containing vector polygon objects. Mac OS X is recommended although OwlView will run with Mac OS 8.6 or higher.
The boundaries used by OwlView were produced by the US Census Bureau for Census 2000. The boundaries available are: County, County Subdivision, Place, Census Tract, Census Block Group, 3-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA), 5-digit ZCTA, 107th Congressional District (before redistricting), 108th Congressional District (current districts) and Voting District (1999).

OwlView 1.0 is available for $35(USD) only by web purchase at http://www.compassowl.com. OwlView is also available for download and evaluation at no cost. In trial mode, OwlView is fully functional but limited to mapping 15 data locations.
CompassOwl was founded in 2003 to provide geographic tools for Macintosh computers. By focusing on simple tools instead of a complete geographic information system, CompassOwl hopes to make mapping as accessible as charting and graphing for businesses, researchers and community activists.
