CompassOwl was established in 2003 to provide geographic tools for Macintosh computers.
By focusing on simple tools instead of a complete geographic information system, CompassOwl hopes to make mapping as accessible as charting and graphing for businesses, researchers and community activists.

Tom Elwertowski, founder of CompassOwl, studied Regional Science at the University of Pennsylvania and has been a software developer for 27 years.
